Tait customers benefit from approval extension

Tait Radio Communications, a global leader in providing radio solutions, has welcomed the industry announcement over the extension to the next Intrinsically Safe (IS) approval update.

FM Approvals, which provides third-party standards certification for IS products, has announced that land mobile radio manufacturers can continue to manufacture current IS-accredited products until the extended date of January 1, 2016.

Approval updates that were initially intended to come into effect in 2012 will now be required following the new 2016 extension date.

Tait Product Business Manager Tony Davis comments, "The announced extension brings a number of benefits to Tait customers who rely on IS-accredited equipment. Customers can continue to operate their current equipment for longer, without needing to worry about replacing existing hardware, retraining staff or reviewing hazard management plans.

“顾客也可以继续加工ate their equipment at full power, maximizing their coverage and removing the need to add extra sites to a network. Ultimately, this means continued high performance and reduced costs," adds Tony.

Tait recently opened a new Melbourne-based Australian facility that will comply with the stringent IS safety criteria required to repair and maintain IS-accredited portable radios.

The facility serves as a workshop and project-planning centre to manage the roll-out of new radio equipment, ongoing maintenance and upgrades for the Country Fire Authority Radio Replacement Programme.

Intrinsically Safe (IS) is a protection technique for safe operation of electronic equipment in explosive atmospheres and under irregular operating conditions.
